Copper Mesh 500g
It’s surface area to volume ratio is more than 100 times that of some ceramic rings and as a consequence you need 100 times less volume in your reflux column when using copper mesh than when using ceramic (Raschig) rings.
The catalytic properties of copper further have the advantage above other packing materials that it remove the sulphides from the vapour to eliminate foul smelling sulphides (i.e. hydrogen sulphide).
To make a roll of mesh suitable for a 54mm (or 2″) column you will need about 2 meters of mesh. Your roll will have a diameter slightly over 54mm and will be more or less 100mm tall.
To make a roll of mesh suitable for a 76mm (or 3″) column you will need about 3.5 meters of mesh. Your roll will have a diameter slightly over 76mm and will be more or less 100mm tall.
(The mesh is rolled to fit inside your still column, so the diameter of your column will determine the length needed).
Using mesh inside your stainless steel distillers column will remove sulfur compounds, and you must be careful not to pack your distillers column too tightly. For more information have a look at this video: How to add Copper Mesh to Your Still
