Pale Dry Malt Extract (DME) – for making beer

General information

Malted Barley is a barley grain that is germinated up to a specific point and then dried.  The malted grain is then mashed with water allowing the enzymes to break down the various starches and proteins that exist in the grain.  The insoluble fibre in the husk is then removed and the resultant sugary liquid is then concentrated viscous liquid call malt extract syrup. The liquid is then dried into a free-flowing hygroscopic fine powder with the same malty taste as the liquid malt syrup to make dry malt extract.
